RMA has reached a milestone! The GGRMA celebrated RMA's 100th Year Anniversary with a celebratory dinner at the City Club of San Francisco on June 25, 2014. In attendance were four National Board Members - Mike Loughlin, Russ Playford, Mark Midkiff, and Jason Strofs, along with RMA's National YP Chair, Corinne Santos. The exclusive event brought members together for a drink reception and a delicious three course meal while discussing RMA's success. Thank you to those who attended the Centennial Celebration and congratulations to everyone involved with RMA for such a successful 100 years of risk based service. We look forward to achieving our next milestone together.
The GGRMA held its first mixer for RMA’s new Operational Risk Subcommittee. The Operational Risk Networking Event was held on April 24 in heart of San Francisco at Jillian’s at the Metreon. Bankers and risk professionals gathered for drinks and pool to discuss operational risk with individuals from other institutions. Guests were also treated to delicious appetizers and a no host bar after the first free drink while cheering on the Golden State Warriors taking on the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 3 of the Western Conference Playoffs. GGRMA Hosts Young Professionals Networking Event GGRMA HOSTS YOUNG PROFESSIONALS NETWORKING EVENT 05-03-2014 The GGRMA recently hosted an event where young professionals in the finance industry had the opportunity to learn from local, well-connected leaders from all over the Bay Area. Guests were invited to Jillian’s at the Metreon in downtown San Francisco for appetizers, drinks, and billiards while networking with experienced leaders within the industry. We were joined with bankers, CPA’s, and other Bay Area professionals to encourage these upcoming business leaders to reach their career goals and overcome future obstacles. The Golden Gate Chapter of the RMA recently held its very first Women In Banking Leadership Panel. This special event, held at the City Club of SF, presented guests with the opportunity to hear from three senior executives who overcame obstacles to reach the well-deserved success they have achieved. Our Panel consisted of Tani Girton of Bank of Marin, Arcinee Hovanessian of Bank of the West, and Kat Taylor of One Pacific Coast Bank, with moderator Nancy Crooks of Union Bank. Discussion topics ranged from economic viability in the Bay Area to the importance of diversity. On Thursday September 26, the GGRMA held our annual Bank CEO Forum at the City Club of San Francisco. Bankers from all over the Bay Area enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet while networking with other guests. This year, our panel included Russell Colombo of Bank of Marin, Raymond Davis of Umpqau Holdings Co, and Stephen Heitel of Presidio Bank, with moderator David Sandler of Sandler O’Neil & Partners, LP. The turn out was incredible and we thank everyone for attending the forum this year. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did and hope to see you at our upcoming events.
The Golden Gate Chapter of the RMA was pleased to present Operational Risk Series: Emerging Risks. This well attended event was held at The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and included a special presentation from Rich Brightman, SVP/Enterprise Risk Manager, Enterprise Risk Strategy & Integration at Union Bank. Guests were treated to a presentation from Rich and his team, who shared their approach and insights on identifying and managing emerging risks. The event was extremely interactive which allowed for successful discussions and interactive audience participation where the guests were split into working groups to present at the end of the session. We hope all our guests enjoyed their time and a special thank you to Rich Brightman for sharing your insight with us.
The RMA 2013 Chapter Leaders Conference was held this past June in Scottsdale, Arizona. The two-day conference allowed members some rest and relaxation at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa while attending meetings and networking with fellow members. Robert Sarver, of Western Alliance Bankcorp and Phoenix Suns, served as Keynote Speaker to our chapter leaders at the opening session. Planning is also in the works to celebrate the 100th year of the RMA. The GGRMA will hold our annual chapter planning session this week to plan even more events and programs for the Bay Area.
Last month The Golden Gate Chapter of the RMA was proud to present Simplifying the Credit Process, a lunch and learn event with a special presentation from Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer of Wells Fargo Richard J. Kerbis. This well attended event held at The City Club of San Francisco treated guests with a great networking opportunity and lunch, followed by Richard’s presentation where he shared his thoughts on the credit process and deal analysis with a Q&A period after. Richard described the important factors in the loan decision process and how he and Wells approach credits, stressing the importance of quality, caliber, and character of people and understanding their businesses. We hope all our guests enjoyed their time and a special thank you to Richard and Wells Fargo for participating in this event and supporting the GGRMA.

The event was held at Jillian’s at the Metreon where guests enjoyed appetizers, drinks, and billiards while networking with bankers, CPA’s, and other Bay Area professionals. Admission was free and snacks and pool was courtesy of the GGRMA.
The Golden Gate Chapter of the RMA held their annual Bay Area Community Bank CEO Forum in July and for all who attended the discussions were lively, open, and very educational. More than 100 bankers, executives, and industry leaders showed up for an early morning breakfast and networking at the beautiful City Club in San Francisco which was then followed by a 2 hour panel discussion moderated by Mark Calvey from the San Francisco Business Times. The four CEO’s gave their opinion on various topics which included the current M&A environment, BASEL III, regulatory issues, competition, and social media in banking. Loan issues discussed included the quality and availability of C&I deals in the market, the participation environment, and has the “storm” really passed.
